Los Angeles
The village of our lady, the queen of the angels of the river of Porziuncola
Los Angeles is a city of dreams. People come here from all over the world to reach the pinnacle of success and fame.It was the September 4 in the year 1781 when Felipe De Neve, Spanish governor, founded this beautiful city of angels, which is now the second most populated city of the USA.
Back in the 3,000 B.C. this area was occupied by the Hokan people who were supposedly group of different language families spoken in Mexico and California. This area was later invaded by the Uto-Aztecan lingo. In the 18th century AD, the estimated population of California was 2,500,000 to 3,000,000 out of which 5,000 belonged to Los Angeles basin. This is the time when Spanish people came to Los Angeles. Later the people of Los Angeles were known as Fernandinos and Gabrielinos who conquered a huge area of four thousand square miles. The area was involved in the good trading north to the east. These traders were actively involved in slavery. The Gabrielino people were administered by some religious people who believed in super natural powers. They were considered as the most efficient human profession and there were lot of inter-community marriages with Mexican colonists.
Later Juan Rodriguez arrived with his crew when they were looking out for a new route to Asia. This was the first time when Europeans landed into Los Angeles and after this it took 166 years for the other Europeans to visit here.
To explore Alta California, General Jose De Galvez reached Los Angeles in 1765. He wanted to establish a complete military fort and missions, the missions were supposed to provide adequate food and other goods. The certified date of the establishment of the city is 4th September 1781, which is confirmed by the written message of Governor Neve sent to pueblo’s juridical. At that time there were only 44 pabladores (pabladores, also called townspeople were those people who originally found the town). During the establishment the name of the city became an agenda of debate.
The economic growth of Los Angeles improved when people adopted farming as their primary occupation and the city became the largest in the Southern California. Every settler of the city was supposed to get four plots for cultivation out of which two were harvested and two were dry. At that time the natural growth of the city was at its full bloom, there were abundant of flora and fauna, even the Los Angeles River flowed throughout the year. The city was facing a huge economic development which increased the demand of the Indian labor. People started arriving from different islands and landed in Yaanga which gradually took the face of refugee camp. Indians are getting sufficient amount for their labor from pobladores which is gradually attracting more people to the city.
The battle of Los Angeles
In the year 1846, Mexican American War started as Mexico was unable to protect its northern provinces. It took a devastating face when the resident of Los Angeles dug up colonial cannon which were used for the ceremonial occasions. These cannon were later used for firing over the American navy on October 8, 1846 during the battle of Dominguez Rancho. Later in December in the same year the Mexican won the battle of San Pascual. Treaty of Caheunga was signed on 13th January 1847 that officially ended the Californian chapter of Mexican American combat.
Los Angeles played a crucial role for America during World War II. It grew as the major centre for the ammunition supply and aircraft production, the result of which was that the city got a giant financial status. At that time Los Angeles was the only city with the largest car manufacturing capacity. Actually it became a hub for the industrial growth. This all was happening during 1950s when the city experienced the center for broadcasting programs and radio channels followed by Television shows.
This boom continued and became the noteworthy feature of the city. In the beginning of 20th century the San Fernando Valley became the hot spot for the developers and General Motors convinced North America to close down their light rail car street system. They introduced bus system which rapidly increased the pollution level in the city but provided a more flexible and convenient transportation system.
Late in the 20th century Los Angeles faced many ups and downs in the economic growth of the city. By the year 1990 some left over automobiles factory were also shut down, but still there was huge capital generation with farming and dairy production. Macroeconomic changes like broadcasting studio in the city brought big social changes along with them. By this time the unemployment rate dropped to great extent with the generation of the low salaried jobs. As more and more residential complexes were built there was good infrastructure development in the city.
Later on November 10, 2004 it was announced that San Fernando Valley will be turned into industrial power which supposedly generated more jobs in the region.
The city is full of a million possibilities. It has a lot to offer to its residents and those who are planning to move in. It is very well constructed and is full of architectural and aesthetic wonders to offer. |
