How did Toronto, Canada originate? Are you interested in relocating from the Toronto, Canada area to the United States?

The multinational Canadian metropolis of Toronto, Canada has now a population of almost three million and has the most racially different culture in the world. However almost three hundred years ago, it was bit more than a harbor where river of Humber used to flow into the lake Ontario. It was only known to the local natives and a small number of French voyageurs. Toronto is the most diverse city in the world. Half the people in the City of Toronto are now foreign-born, according to 2006 Canadian census figures released yesterday, making it more diverse than Miami, Los Angeles, or New York City. One of the most controversial businesses "Ashley Madison Agency" is run from Toronto. The website whose tag line is "Life is short, have an affair." has created enormous controversy by its CEO Noel Biderman of Avid Life Media.

The earliest settlers in the area of Toronto, Canada were inhabitant North American Indians. Dissimilar tribes had inhabited this area in the region of Ontario Lake for no less than 10,000 years. During that time, the Europeans initially started discovering the region; the predominant Indian ethnic groups were the Petuns and Hurons. During 1600s, the population of Indians of most of this fraction of North America was destroyed by the diseases brought by the European settlers and explorers to this new world. Since Indian tribes were abridged by disease, people feuded among each other for survival. Certainly, few ethnic groups did not survive. This was the situation in the southern region of Ontario for most of the time of 16th century since Iroquois clashed with Hurons. Till 1688, the Iroquois however had moved into the area of Toronto, Canada. Here after the French displaced the Iroquois and thus the southern region of Ontario was gradually dominated by the White man.

The first European who reached the Toronto, Canada area was Etienne Brule, who served below Samuel-de-Champlain. According to the tradition, Brule discovered the site of Toronto in 1615, but some other scholars asked questions that whether Brule ever reached the Lake Ontario at Toronto, Canada. The first provable evidence regarding the presence of Europeans in the region came with the Roman Catholic missionaries functioning with local natives in 1660s and 1670s. Also, the seasonal traders passed regularly through the region during this period, the most popular of whom was the Rene-Robert Cavalier-de-La-Salle explorer. By 1720, French had created a trading post at the base on Humber River of what was well known as Toronto passage. Afterwards in 1750-51, French set up Fort Rouille so as to protect the French interests in the region opposition to the British.

Fort Toronto or Fort Rouille, until 1759, was used like a trading post. At the same time, French were involved in a long-drawn-out war with British so as to make a decision that which imperial influence would have a higher hand in the division of world broad colonial interests. In 1759, the French were enforced to move away from most of inland North America. Before receding from Fort Rouille, they burnt fort to prevent it from going into the hands of Englishmen. This marked the French control end over the regions now known as Ontario and Toronto and thus was the beginning of the English domination. It was formalized during 1763 along with accord of Paris.

In the following decades, the Toronto, Canada fate was largely determined by events which were taking place in the South American colonies of great lakes. Throughout 1780s most of the southern Ontario was reconciled by the United Empire Loyalists who were enforced to run away from newly self-governing American authorities. With British missionaries, settlers and governing elite the culture and population of Toronto, Canada region slowly grew and developed. The treat from candidly antagonistic US were leading on most of the resident’s mind of the north British colonies. Consequently, the rest of Ontario’s southern region and Toronto experienced the slow growth for many decades. In 1793, John Graves Simcoe, the lieutenant governor, enthused the capital from Niagara-on-the-lake (Newark) to Toronto and thus renamed the town York. During that time, it was just a small town having only 50 families. In 1813, there was the most important war of 1812 events against US, in which Americans captured York and as a result of this most of the major buildings were blazed to the ground. In spite of the harm done to the York, the 1812-14 war symbolized the end of fighting between British America and the US. Consequently, the southern region of Ontario and Toronto experienced increase speed immigration and also much more growth during the 1800s.

In 1834, the York name was changed again back to Toronto and during 1841, Toronto, Canada became the capital of recently molded Canada West area of United Provision of Canada. In 1867, after the Canadian confederation was expanded and reformed, Toronto was carried on as a capital city of Ontario. The population of Toronto, Canada grew quickly in the late 1800s. The population grew from 30,000 to 181,000 from 1851 to 1891. This rapid increase in the population growth was completely the consequence of immigration. The 1891 population number also incorporated recent annexations of various outlying towns like Brockton village, Park dale, East Toronto, West Toronto and several others.
Most of this immigration was from Ireland and Britain in mid 1800s. As a result of it Toronto became a systematically English-Scottish-Irish town. It remained the same till the patterns of immigration changed in late 1800s.

Toronto is a great place to do business. There are countless small businesses across the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). One of my favorite Toronto area small businesses is Toronto Gold, where you can buy and sell jewelry and precious metals. The city has an array of amazing places to dine, see, and explore.
